Magic in Etan

Magic is the ability possessed by some individuals to manipulate the energies of the world to produce desired results. Lesser magic is a fairly common sight, especially out in the fields, but the more grandiose magic is rarely seen and usually feared.

Regulation

Regulation of magic varies among continents and nations. The regulations can range from no regulation to almost totalitarian ruling where only the leader is allowed to perform any magical acts.

Arcane Magic

Arcane magic is the magical manipulation of the "building blocks" of existence. It allows a caster to create objects out of thing air, manipulate the minds of others, and change the flow of time. Arcane magic is called the scholar's magic, because it takes years of dedicated study to truly master the arcane arts. Arcane magi are frequently called upon for their wisdom, for they have seen and studied much.

Arcanists

Arcane casters are usually well off members of society. They are able to spend their time devoted to the extensive studying and practicing that arcane mastery requires. Usually, this is done in either a library or a school devoted to arcane studies.

Elemental Magic

Elemental magic is the manipulation of the four elements, the first creations of the Sator. Most elemental magi are born with a "natural talent" for elemental magic. Those magi are considered "gifted" to be able to control the very elements used to create Etan. It still takes much study to master the elements, but it is usually not practiced in a library like the arcane schools. Instead, elementalists usually learn through actually practicing their arts.

Elementalists

Elemental casters are one of the most feared types of casters for they raw ability to bring about great destruction. They are usually avoided, but usually rank just below priests in developed societies.

Divine Magic

Divine magic is granted by the gods to those faithful to them. Divine magi, or priests, pledge loyalty to one or more gods and derive their power from the gods themselves.

Priests

Divine casters are usually the most well respected casters in society. Their ability to commune directly with the gods is and awe inspiring feat. Priest are seen as channels to the gods and are frequently consulted on matters of great importance. They are the most revered magi in Etan as they have a close connection with the gods.

Nature Magic

Nature magic draws on the power of Etan itself. Nature magi, or druids, call upon the natural essence of Etan to assist them, commanding plants and creatures and even becoming a creature itself. Nature magic is probably the least understood of the magics because most druids either guard their knowledge or just don't interact with others ofter enough to pass the knowledge far. Druids tend to live away from civilized areas, preferring to commune with Etan and its creations.

Druids

Nature casters, usually preferring isolation with nature over the bustling live of developed society, are usually a rare sight. They are seen as mysterious and suspicious. However, druids are frequently sought after as they usually have the greatest ability of enhancing crop yields, and thus productivity.
